HENRY SLANE

When he was 10, H.C.S was the cute little family friend with pet lizards.
When he was 14 he became the best babysitter in the world.
When he was 18 he started an Illustration degree at AUT.
When he was 20 he painted beautiful moth patterns and dreamed up the moth girls which inspired an entire Kate Sylvester collection.
And he’s still the best babysitter in the world.

SUSTAINABILITY

Kate Sylvester is an independent intelligent New Zealand designer who prides herself on beautiful eclectic pieces that transcend, not only time and trend, but also the disposability of fashion.

Fashion is our core business, but we are making sustainability our business too. Kate Sylvester are a proud member of the Sustainable Business Network having participated and won the National Sustainable Business award from the “Get Sustainable Challenge."

Where possible our clothing is made onshore and our challenge is to continue to support New Zealand’s fashion industry and it’s skilled contractors, many of whom were there supporting Kate Sylvester in it’s infancy.

Already we have started measuring and actively reducing our carbon emissions. Each year an independent third party calculates our corporate emissions so that we can confirm and demonstrate our progress on reducing our impact on climate change.

We are collaborating with like-minded businesses such as Millton Vineyards and Winery who are one of the ten Vineyards in the world to be using bio-dynamic production techniques.

We have successfully implemented sustainability measures in our offices and stores with the backing of our enthusiastic staff, and as a result have cut our waste in half. From recycling, to a worm farm to low emission vehicles, we believe that the little things can make a really big difference. We’re committed to investigating sustainable and ethical fabric sources wherever possible and are very excited at the prospect of addressing all aspects of our supply chain.

KATE SYLVESTER

Iconic New Zealand designer Kate Sylvester’s conceptual collections have embodied intelligence, witty irreverence, sophistication and modern femininity since the label’s inception in 1993.

Ever the subtle subversive, Kate Sylvester plays off disparate references, seamlessly stitching sportswear with couture, menswear with womenswear, pop culture with history, high art with punk rock. The resulting collections challenge nostalgic sensibilities with modern use of colour, cut and exclusive in-house prints.

A regular feature at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, Sylvester’s shows are always a press highlight attracting praise from Tim Blanks of style.com to Vogue’s Damien Woolnough, Romy Friedman of stylemeromy.com and Paddy Huntington of frockwriter.com.

Tim Blanks described Kate's designs as appealingly off kilter with an indie spirit.

Her unpredictable yet elegant brand of quirk extends beyond an aesthetic to a culture and philosophy that is equally at home in department stores and boutiques internationally as it is in their own concept stores across their homeland and the Sydney flagship.
